This course — General Swedish for Professionals, Level A1/A2 — is a rigorously designed, five-month intensive programme developed specifically for career-driven international professionals who are planning to relocate to, or are actively seeking employment in, Sweden and the wider Scandinavian labour market. The programme blends communicative language teaching (CLT) with profession-specific vocabulary modules, ensuring that students gain both everyday language survival skills and the workplace-specific Swedish terminology relevant to their fields.
The curriculum is aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) at the A1 to A2 band, meaning graduates will be able to: understand and use familiar everyday expressions, introduce themselves and exchange personal and professional information, interact at a basic level with native speakers who speak clearly, and handle straightforward workplace communication scenarios.The course runs from Wednesday 23, April 2026 to Thursday, 28 August 2026 — 20 structured weeks of instruction, concluding with a comprehensive Major Examination on Thursday, 27 August 2026 and a graduation ceremony on 28 August 2026. Students who complete this course will be strategically positioned to pursue visa-sponsored employment in Scandinavia from September 2026 onwards, with their language portfolio serving as a competitive differentiator in the job market.
The course fee of KSh 25,000 (Kenyan Shillings) represents an investment in one of the highest-impact career development tools available to internationally mobile professionals. - All instruction is anchored in communicative competence — the ability to actually use Swedish in real-life and professional situations, not merely pass written grammar tests. Role-plays, dialogues, speaking clinics, and peer exercises dominate the classroom experience from Week 1.
- Weeks 11 and 12 deliver two dedicated sector vocabulary blocks covering over 120 key terms across engineering, IT, finance, science, law, architecture, maritime, HR, and biotechnology. Students choose their primary sector focus but gain exposure to adjacent fields.
- Each week integrates all four language skills: Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing. Students never spend an entire week on grammar alone — every grammar concept is immediately applied in communicative contexts.
- Week 14 is dedicated to Swedish society, culture, and social integration — covering concepts like Lagom (the Swedish philosophy of balance and moderation), Allemansrätten (the right to roam), Fika culture (the Swedish coffee-and-conversation tradition), the flat workplace hierarchy, and gender equality norms. This cultural literacy is a differentiator in job interviews and integration processes.
- Weeks 17 and 18 incorporate practical guidance on Swedish CV writing in Swedish, navigating Scandinavian job platforms, understanding visa and work permit language, and identifying sectors with active sponsored vacancies. This transforms the language course into a career launchpad.
- Four 120-minute live sessions per week are delivered via video conferencing by qualified Swedish language instructors. All sessions are recorded and available for 7-day replay, ensuring students who miss sessions can keep up.
- Every enrolled student receives: a full course workbook (digital PDF), weekly vocabulary lists with audio files, flashcard decks (Anki-compatible), listening exercise audio files, grammar reference sheets, sector vocabulary guides by profession, and mock examination papers.
- A full graded mock examination — mirroring the structure of the Major Exam on 27 August 2026 — is conducted in Week 19. Students receive individual feedback reports identifying strengths and areas for final revision, ensuring they enter the exam period with confidence.
- Dedicated speaking clinic sessions in Weeks 4, 10, 15, and 20 provide individual or small-group pronunciation coaching. Swedish phonology (including the distinctive Swedish tonal pitch accent) is addressed systematically from Week 1 and refined throughout the course.
- Students are placed in small cohort groups of 4–6 peers from similar professional backgrounds. These groups meet weekly in facilitated breakout sessions to practise conversation, complete collaborative exercises, and support each other’s learning journeys.
- Graduates receive a 30-day post-course access period to all digital materials and a discounted pathway to the B1 Swedish for Professionals course, enabling continuous progression toward full workplace language fluency.
- Students who attend at least 80% of sessions and sit the Major Examination receive a professionally issued Certificate of Completion: Swedish for Professionals — Level A1/A2, dated 28 August 2026. This certificate is formatted for inclusion in visa application portfolios, LinkedIn profiles, and job applications.
Requirements
- A minimum of a Diploma degree or equivalent professional qualification in any recognised field. Applicants with significant professional experience but without a degree may apply and will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
- At least two (2) years of professional work experience in the applicant’s chosen field. This ensures that profession-specific vocabulary modules are contextually meaningful to the learner.
- A clear intention or active plan to seek employment, visa sponsorship, or professional relocation to Sweden or the broader Scandinavian region. This is not a mandatory requirement but ensures students derive maximum value from the career-linked curriculum.
- A computer, laptop, or tablet with a working webcam and microphone — essential for live virtual speaking sessions.
- Reliable internet connection capable of supporting video streaming (minimum 5 Mbps recommended).
- Access to a personal email address for course communications, resource delivery, and digital materials.
- Installation of a video conferencing platform ( Microsoft Teams — provided upon enrolment) and a PDF reader for study materials.
- Students are expected to attend a minimum of 80% of live sessions to qualify for the Certificate of Completion.
- Self-study commitment of approximately 3–4 hours per week outside of live sessions is strongly recommended to achieve A2 proficiency by the final examination.
- Active participation in all speaking exercises, quizzes, written assignments, and the mock examination is required.
- Students must register and sit the Major Examination on 27 August 2026 to receive a graded certificate.
